In a post to Twitter this afternoon, Jayson Stark of ESPN claimed that the Mets have gotten serious about trading reigning National League Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey.
Yesterday Buster Olney said that while the Mets have made progress in their contract discussions with Dickey, a deal is not close.
As Stark points out, the Royals and Rangers have already been linked to Dickey and may have the talent to get a deal done. Jon Heyman of CBS recently noted that as many seven teams have reportedly shown interest in trading for Dickey. Sandy Alderson will be a popular man at the Winter Meetings but it remains to be seen if he can find a deal substantial enough to warrant trading away a fan favorite and a player that was arguable the best pitcher in baseball last season.
