Just this morning Andy Martino of the Daily News published an article suggesting that “Now that the Mets have exercised David Wright’s 2013 club option, the team and its signature player plan to intensify negotiations, discussing years and dollars as soon as this week, according to a person briefed on the process.” Mets fans were left to breathe a slight sigh of relief that while a deal was far from done, things were at least heading in the right direction.
Fast forward to 5 p.m. and a tweet from Mike Puma of the New York Post shows just how quickly sentiment can change.
Technically Martino didn’t say things would intensify today, so it’s possible both beat writers are getting accurate accounts from their sources, but something tells me this is the kind of roller coaster Mets fans have to look forward to in the coming weeks. I have to admit, I was really hoping this wouldn’t be something that would drag on, but it’s a huge deal for both sides and it’s not going to come easy.
