Wow. I guess this team woke up today, lead by Daniel Murphy finally breaking out of his home run slumber. Prior to today Daniel Murphy went 352 at bats (and 273 this season) without a homer. After he finally slugged his first of the year, he liked it so much, he did it again in his very next at bat. It was great to see Murphy break out, but he wasn’t alone today in the Mets 17-1 victory.
Ike Davis hit a homer, Scott Hairston hit a grand slam and David Wright drove in 5 RBI today, in what was the Mets biggest win of the season. Also worth mentioning was the pitching performance from Jonathon Niese, who was great today, as the Mets avoided a sweep at the hands of a weak Chicago Cubs team. Maybe the team was tired of being embarassed by the Cubs. Or maybe they just finally were rested after their horrible trip to the windy city. Either way, a win is a win…
