New York Mets left fielder Scott Hairston takes the kind of cuts that make you want to get out and swing a bat. The hard swinging/hard hitting righty is a lefty bashing machine that has been paying huge dividends for the Mets in 2012. Despite playing part time for most of the year, his nine homers rank second on the team behind only Lucas Duda. After going 2-4 with a RBI against the Orioles on Wednesday night, including a clutch double in the 5th inning to put the Mets up 2-0, Hairston is now batting .284 on the year and a whopping .351 (27-77) against left handers. Maybe it’s just me but every time he’s up against a lefty, it seems like he’s going to hit the hell out of the ball.
The 32-year-old may swing out of his shoes from time to time and he’s not going to win any gold gloves in the outfield, but Hairston is provides a right-handed power bat the Mets desperately need when there’s a lefty on the mound and he’s been vastly outproducing his $1.1 million contract.
