According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, New York Mets outfielder Jason Bay was placed on the 15-day DL with a nondisplaced rib fracture.

The outfield alignment until Andres Torres returns should be interesting. It likely will be as simple as Scott Hairston (with some Mike Baxter) manning left field. Less likely but not fully unreasonable: Jordany Valdespin could play some center field, with Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Lucas Duda playing corner spots, although Nieuwenhuis has not played left field in the minors. Also working against it: Valdespin is here as the backup middle infielder, filling in for Ronny Cedeno.
