With an 0-for-3 performance on Wednesday afternoon, Jason Bay has seen his average dip to below the mendoza line, collecting three hits in 19 2012 at-bats:
During one of Bay’s at-bats, I tweeted the following:
Considering the response and the amount of Re-Tweets it received, it think it is safe to assume that most fans feel the same. However, it is becoming clear that the Mets may never see the Jason Bay who produced 29 home runs and 103 runs batted in with Boston just three seasons ago. Following his 0-fer on Wednesday, Bay told reports he felt good at the plate:
I actually feel pretty good. I’ve faced some good pitching the last couple days and it’s really a matter of just building on it. I feel like I’m having good at-bats, as far as seeing the ball and doing certain things. There were times the last few years, you’re kind of guessing and not even close. But I don’t feel like I’m there at all.”
Bay may feel good at the plate, but the truth is, Mets fans patience are running thin with the 33-year-old outfielder. Maybe a road-trip away from the Citi Field boo birds is what Bay needs to get going; and finally start living up to that $66 million contract he received in 2010. One can dream, right?
