The New York Mets will continue their series with the Atlanta Braves at 1:05 pm on Saturday afternoon at Citi Field:
R.A. Dickey will take the hill for Mets on Saturday afternoon, with hopes of getting off to a better start then he did in 2011. Dickey was 1-5 while allowing 29 earned runs through his first nine starts in 2011 before finally finding his groove. Dickey said the cold can sometimes be a factor, but with a warmer forecast for Saturday, he could be in luck.
It can sometimes be a problem. When it’s too cold, the balls feel different in your hands. It’s like feeling a pool ball, almost. It’s hard to make it do what you want it to do.”
Even though the crafty knuckleballer ended his 2011 campaign with a team best 3.28 ERA, he fell victim to low run support winning just 8 of his 32 starts. If history is any indication, it may not take much support tomorrow as the Dickster boasted an impressive 2.60 ERA in four starts versus the Braves last season; allowing eight runs over 27 2/3 innings pitched.
Jair Jurrjens, who will begin his fifth season with Atlanta, will oppose R.A. this afternoon. Jurrjens went 13-6 with a 2.95 ERA last season, although he had just one victory after the All-Star break and missed all of September with a knee injury, according to Sportsline.com.
