New York Mets 2011 first round pick, Brandon Nimmo arrived at camp today and addressed the NY media. Here is what the youngster said according to those who were in attendance:
According to Mike Kerwick of the Bergan Record, Nimmo has no timetable for a trip to the majors sketched out, but he is pleased with his progression to this point:
I’m no farther back in my process than anyone else. I don’t mean to sound cocky, but I feel like I’m advanced… I know some people think that taking me in that No. 13 spot was maybe a little high, but I don’t feel that way. I feel like they took me there for a reason and I know what that reason is. And I can handle this.”
Nimmo went on to say he is fine with wherever the Mets place him after Spring Training concludes.
I’m really, really excited, looking forward to a full season. I think last year things were going at 100 mph right after I signed. I was at one place for two weeks, another for three days, then another for three weeks… just never really could get settled in, you know?”
It has been a long time since the Mets have put an added emphasis on improving their minor leagues and with the new regime it has been clear, that is the plan. When Sandy Alderson was hired to right the ship he explained that improving the Mets minor league system was important and I think after last years draft, and the trade of Carlos Beltran, we can expect good things to come out of the Mets minor league affiliates in the coming years.
