Scott Kazmir reunion in Flushing unlikely

Left handed starter and former New York Mets top prospect Scott Kazmir held a workout yesterday in front of ten or so scouts, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com.  One scout –who was in attendance — told Olney he saw the southpaw hit upwards of 91 MPH:

Scott Kazmir threw at about 86-87 mph today, touched 89 mph in his workout; that's better than last season with LAA. About 10 scouts there.

Kazmir 28, was drafted 15th overall by NY in 2002 and was sent to Tampa Bay for Victor Zambrano just two years later in what has been called one of the worst trades in team history.  However, after a strong start to his career the left hander has recorded just 19 wins while allowing 184 earned runs over 299 innings (5.54 ERA) since 2009 and was released last season after just one dreadful start by Anaheim Angels.  Although the Mets drafted Kazmir in the first round of 2002, David Lennon reports that NY is not interested in the left hander “at this time”:

Was told that #Mets aren't interested in Scott Kazmir "at this time," so there will be no reunion in Flushing.
