New York Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson joined joined Twitter (@MetsGM) yesterday and immediately showed his sense of humor when he tweeted the following:

Getting ready for Spring Training-Driving to FL but haven’t left yet. Big fundraiser tonight for gas money. Also exploring PAC contribution.

That’s awesome! According to the Daily News:

The idea for the account actually arose as a retort to jokes about Alderson’s decision to drive to spring training. Given ownership’s precarious financial situation — which includes approximately $70 million in losses, a $50 million payroll cut, layoffs and a looming Bernard Madoff-related lawsuit — Alderson heard the cracks about his team being unable to afford an airplane ticket for its general manager.

He figured that if people were going to make jokes at his club’s expense, he would also have a little fun. @MetsGM was born.”
