While the Mets may not be able to match the headlines Miami is putting up, they’re hardly sitting idly by. On Tuesday New York signed relievers Jon Rauch (click here to read) and Frank Francisco (click here to read) and traded center fielder Angel Pagan to San Francisco for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez (click here to read). So far on Wednesday no new acquisitions have been made, but it’s not due to a lack of effort. The most surprising name to hear being thrown around was that of 25-year-old lefty Jonathon Niese, who unsurprisingly drew a good deal of interest from around the league.
In addition, it’s believed the Yankees may have also made a call regarding Niese:
In the end, it seems like the team is doing more listening than talking and who can blame them.
Even with ears open, it’s not sounding as if the front office is hearing anything that overwhelms them.
Same can be said for Mike Pelfrey, though that’s hardly a surprise.
