Pelfrey and the Mets back at it tonight vs. Cards

Coming off a series win on the road against the Wild Card leading Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets travel to St. Louis to face the Cardinals.  The red birds currently trail the Braves by just 2.5 games for the NL Wild Card lead and the Mets enter this 3-game set with another chance to play spoiler.

The Pitch:

Mike Pelfrey will be given the ball to start the series as he faces off against Edwin Jackson:

The Hit:

Mets Tuesday lineup at St. Louis: Reyes-SS, Pagan-CF, Wright-3B, Duda-RF, Harris-LF, Evans-1B, Thole-C, Tejada-2B, Pelfrey-RHP
New York Mets

Breathing Fire:

Pelfrey pitched great in his last start but still took the loss as his defense allowed Washington to plate two unearned runs.  Pelf now has a 2.95 ERA over his last 3 outings.  Justin Turner, Jason Bay, and Lucas Duda are all hitting over .300 through the month of September.

Duda finished the Braves series a whopping 7 for 13 (.538 avg) and became only the second player to homer off Atlanta Breaves closer Craig Kimbrel (Omar Infante made it 3 last night).  The Dude is now batting .292 on the season.

Up in Smoke:

Pedro Beato and D.J. Carrasco have combined to allow 10 ER in just 12 innings pitched this month, good for a 7.5o ERA.

NL batting race entering Tuesday: Ryan Braun .333, Jose Reyes .331, Matt Kemp .320, Joey Votto .316, Hunter Pence .311
