Pre-Game It: Mets Head Home to Take on the Fish

Despite a nice road trip, the Mets will head home with a sour taste in their mouths after dropping their last series of the trip to the Nationals yesterday.  Fortunately for the Mets, as they say in baseball, you’re only as good as your next day’s starting pitcher.  And if Mike Pelfrey‘s last start was any sort of sign, they have a good one going tonight.  Here are the guys heading to the hill tonight:

Javier Vazquez isn’t quite as easy of a draw as he was earlier in the year as he’s had quality starts in 7 of his last 8 outings, the exception, a performance where he gave up 8 runs to a Padres team that struggles offensively.  Meanwhile for the Mets, Mike Pelfrey has been oddly consistent lately giving up no more than 4 runs in any of his last 10 outings.  The problem with that stat is that some of those nights Pelfrey hasn’t gone beyond the 5th inning, so maybe consistent isn’t REALLY the right word.

And here’s your line up:

Monday's Lineup vs. Marlins: Reyes-SS, Turner-2B, Murphy-1B, Wright-3B, Pagan-CF, Bay-LF, Duda-RF, Paulino-C, Pelfrey-RHP
New York Mets

Going into tonight I would have bet money that after Scott Hairston‘s performance last night that he’d find his way into the line up, but with Lucas Duda playing well and a righty on the hill for the Marlins, I guess it makes sense.  The rest of the line up has no real surprises.

This is a BIG series for the Mets as they need to stay within 7.5 to have ANY real shot at making headway this weekend in their series with Atlanta.  It’s all about winning series, so let’s start tonight…

Let’s go Mets.
